Hubie Halloween (2020) - Movie Review
Hubie Halloween - Another Copy & Paste Adam Sandler Flick
Rating - 3/10
"The only thing scarier than Halloween is not believing in yourself."
Hubie Halloween is another entry in Adam Sandler’s long line of silly comedies, and while it has a few lighthearted moments, it mostly misses the mark. Set in Salem, the movie follows Hubie, a well-meaning but bumbling man who takes it upon himself to protect his town during Halloween. The idea could have been fun, but the execution ends up feeling more annoying than entertaining.
The biggest issue with Hubie Halloween is its humor. Most of the jokes fall flat, relying on juvenile gags and slapstick that feel recycled from Sandler’s earlier work. The movie leans so heavily into its absurdity that it becomes exhausting rather than funny. Even with a stacked cast of familiar Sandler collaborators, very few moments stand out as genuinely amusing.
That being said, there is a strange charm to the movie. Sandler’s performance, while ridiculous, shows a level of commitment that at least makes Hubie memorable. The Halloween setting is also fun, filled with colorful decorations, costumes, and spooky small town vibes that give the film a seasonal appeal. It might not be a good movie, but it is the kind of thing that some viewers will throw on during October just for the goofy atmosphere.
Overall, Hubie Halloween is far from Sandler’s best work. It is clumsy, repetitive, and rarely funny, but it has just enough of that bizarre Sandler energy to keep it from being completely unwatchable. If you are looking for a Halloween comedy, there are plenty of better options, but if you want something dumb and festive in the background, this one might scratch that itch. Either way, it's just another dumb and lazy Adam Sandler movie where he plays a loser who gets the girl, and gives his friends a paycheck along the way.
