Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) - Movie Review
Spider-Man: Far From Home - A Fun Post-Endgame Romp
Rating - 8/10
"Everywhere I go, I see his face."
Spider-Man Far From Home is a fun and energetic follow up to Homecoming that lets Peter Parker step out of Tony Stark’s shadow while still dealing with the grief of losing his mentor. The film balances high school comedy with world saving action, creating a story that feels both lighthearted and surprisingly heavy at times.
One of the biggest highlights here is Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio. He plays the role with charm and ease, making the twist about his true intentions all the more effective. The illusion sequences are some of the most visually creative moments in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, showing how the filmmakers can still find new ways to push the superhero genre forward.
Tom Holland once again shines as Peter Parker. His awkwardness, humor, and vulnerability make him easy to root for, and his dynamic with Zendaya’s MJ feels natural and charming. The high school trip across Europe provides a fresh backdrop for the action, and the comedy lands without ever completely undercutting the stakes.
That said, the movie does lean on some conveniences in its plot, and a few moments feel a little rushed as it builds toward the massive third act showdown. Still, the balance of humor, action, and heart is strong, and the ending sets up an exciting path forward for Spider-Man’s future in the MCU.
Spider-Man Far From Home succeeds as both a superhero blockbuster and a character-driven story about a teenager learning to step into the shoes of a hero. It is colorful, funny, emotional, and filled with moments that remind us why Spider-Man continues to be one of Marvel’s most beloved characters.
