Venom: The Last Dance (2024) - Movie Review
Venom: The Last Dance - Hopefully That's True
Rating - 4/10
"I won't forget you buddy."
Venom: The Last Dance is another stumble for Sony’s attempt at a Spider-Man villain universe, and it really shows just how hollow this franchise feels without Spider-Man himself. The lack of an R rating hurts it once again. For a character like Venom, whose stories often thrive on darker, more violent tones, keeping things watered down makes the action feel toothless and dull.
The biggest disappointment here is how little Knull is actually used. On paper, introducing the god of the symbiotes should have raised the stakes and turned this series into something truly epic. Instead, Knull barely makes an impression, shoved into the background of a messy story that never gives him the time or menace he deserves. It feels like Sony brought him in just to check a box without understanding what makes him such a terrifying figure in the comics.
Tom Hardy still gives his all, as he has since the first film, but even his commitment cannot cover up how weak the script is. The humor is flat, the pacing is uneven, and the movie stumbles around without a strong identity. The effects and action sequences are serviceable, but nothing feels memorable or worth revisiting.
At this point, it is clear that the entire concept of building a Spider-Man villain universe without Spider-Man is fundamentally broken. Characters like Venom, Morbius, and Kraven lose their weight when they are stripped of the hero that defines them. Venom 3 tries to raise the stakes but instead highlights the flaws that have been there from the beginning.
What should have been an epic showdown with Knull ends up being a forgettable misfire, and the franchise feels more tired than ever.
