Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania - A Sloppy Flop for the MCU

Rating - 3/10

“I don’t have to win. We both just have to lose.”

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is easily one of the weakest films Marvel has put out in recent years. It takes away everything that made the first two Ant-Man movies fun and unique, and replaces it with generic CGI sludge and an overstuffed story that never finds its footing.

One of the biggest crimes this movie commits is leaving out Luis. His hilarious storytelling was a highlight of the first two entries, and his absence is felt in a big way. Without him, and without the heist-style energy of the earlier films, this just feels like another bland Marvel outing that could have been about any hero.

The acting is fine enough, with Paul Rudd still bringing his charm, but the humor does not land nearly as well this time. Most of the jokes feel forced or just plain flat. The special effects are a huge letdown too. The CGI looks murky and the green screen work is rough, making the Quantum Realm more of a messy blur than a place of wonder.

Kang the Conqueror is at least somewhat intimidating, and Jonathan Majors gives him presence, but the script does him no favors. Having him lose to Ant-Man in his very first real outing undercuts the idea that he is supposed to be a massive multiversal threat. It makes it hard to take him seriously as the next big bad for the Avengers.

Then there is MODOK. What a complete disaster. He looks ridiculous, his role is wasted, and the entire character feels like a joke. It is one of the most baffling creative choices Marvel has made in the entire MCU.

On top of all that, the outside drama surrounding this film only dragged it down further, making the whole project feel cursed.

At the end of the day, Quantumania strips away the heart and fun that made the Ant-Man series special in the first place. Instead of being a clever, small-scale story with heart and humor, it is a messy, joyless slog with bad effects, wasted characters, and squandered potential. Luis deserved better, and so did audiences.
